My Funny Valentine...

"I don't understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine's Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon" - anonymous

I used to celebrate Valentine’s Day with friends or boyfriends – celebrating, indulging, crying.  When I got married, I loved the roses and candy that were shipped to my office and wondered what surprises were in store for me at home.  I wondered what was going to be in the small black velvet box and what wonderful restaurant would host an evening of wining and dining.

Life has changed somewhat.  Now, I am just as thrilled to receive the choppy hand cut heart-shaped card with chocolate fingerprints smeared on the side from my daughter who decided the chocolate should be tasted before it was delivered.  The delivery has changed, but the sentiments are still there.  Spend the day with someone you love, doing something you love.

This year Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday,  so I will make a big breakfast complete with 2 champagne flutes filled with chopped strawberries and champagne.  My husband will be in charge of making dinner plans – he will most likely bring take out home so the 3 of us can enjoy a meal that mommy does not have to cook.  Once our daughter goes to bed, I plan on whipping up a chocolate indulgence in the form of Frozen Hot Chocolate Martinis.

What a fantastic way to end our day with a sweet treat reminiscing about the good old days when Valentine’s Day luxury meant a 5 star restaurant and now luxury means an extra hour of sleep…..I will, however, still be looking for the black velvet box!

How will you spend the day?  Need some ideas?  Check out the Champagne cocktail recipes or the Frozen Hot Chocolate Martini recipe and surprise your loved one with a delicious sweet treat.  ENJOY!
